Malay Culture Eats in the Town that Continues to Flush
Welcome back to this week’s #ShopLocalSaturday; where I highlight local eats and shops that I have visited. This week is featuring PappaRich in Flushing, NY!
I’m back in Flushing again; they have some of the best Asian eats here in NYC! I’ve heard some people say that if you want to have good Malaysian food; the PappaRich is the place to be. Have not had the opportunity to go give it a try until recently.
*So it turns out that there are only two U.S. locations; Flushing and Edison. There are more across Southeast Asia*
Coming into PappaRich; the wait staff has to seat you according to the number of people in your party, nothing out of the ordinary. There are seating for any number of people; from a two-seater to a big table in the back for about 10.
From the menu; there were many items to try out, but I was looking for quick eats that night. I got Roti Canai with Curry Chicken (pictured above), and mixed satays; which had both chicken and beef sticks, along with a milk tea (for the spices that I’m about to do to myself with the roti appetizer).
I got the Roti Canai first with the milk tea. The sauces on the plate were very good, the brown sauce was a little sweet, so it went with the roti very nicely. The yellow sauce was a bit more on the spicy side, and I had to take it in moderation (remember that I’m highly sensitive to spice XD), good thing I got the milk tea for it. The curry chicken went well with the roti, and was a bit spicy, but did not distraction from the taste of the chicken.

The satays came next (seen above); it was an order of 6, mixed with beef and chicken, with some peanut sauce. They were very good; juicy and tender, and went well with the peanut sauce. I actually had a hard time judging if the chicken or beef was better; both were just too good. I had little difficulty putting each piece of the meat in the peanut sauce, because I had to manually move each piece into the sauce bowl, so I had a lot left over. It was a good thing I had roti left; so I dipped it in the peanut sauce, and it was a good mix to have.
To end, I would recommend PappaRich for those who would like to get their Malay eats on. Crossing overseas from Southeast Asia to be in an diverse Asian area; such as Flushing, it’s easy to see why it’s a fairly popular spot. It is very good to have group lunches or dinners; of about 4-8 people, as it is very ideal, though it does not restrict to that number. I would like for everyone to give it a try; as I want to know what was your experience trying Malay food at PappaRich. I welcome any comments!
As a bonus; if you do wanna get the most bang for your buck; I’ll leave you with the following options below with my links, so that you can earn cash back on what you order while you’re at PappaRich!
Know of any other local shops that you enjoy going to that should be highlighted? Leave a comment and let me know!
And as always,
Remember to always support your local establishments! They are a part of your community!
