Mexican Cuisine in Autumn Times Square
Welcome back to this week’s #ShopLocalSaturday; where I highlight local eats and shops that I have visited. This week is featuring Sombrero in the Times Square District!
I was attending a music concert that night, and figured I wasn’t going to eat after the event, so eating before would be the best course of action. I pull out my SHOP Local app and found that Sombrero was around where I was going to be anyway, so it was best option.
Entering the restaurant at the start of happy hour; not many people were out of work yet to come through, but the bar area was almost full. Luckily, I got a seat at the bar and was given a basket of chip and dipping sauce (slightly peeking at the corner of the pic).
The waiter handed me the menu to look over and saw that they had a Prix Fixe menu. Thinking back on my previous Prix Fixe ( link here…. ); it was probably best not to pursue that option, since I wanted to enjoy my concert. I asked the waiter what was his recommendations, and said that either the Sombrero Burger or Poblano Burger would be the best choice. Looking over it briefly; I picked the Poblano. I, then; asked about the cumin-dusted fries, the waiter said it was very light on the cumin, so it wasn’t that spicy. It stuck out to me as I’ve never had any fries with cumin on it before; so I was open to try it, and with a Modelo Negra.
After getting my plate, and trying out the fries first; I find that the cumin dust on the fries was a very nice flavor to have, as to other places just having a side of fries. A bit spicy at first bite of the fries, but dulled out after the second and third with ketchup.
Next, came the Poblano burger. A sirloin patty with caramelized onions, with Monterrey Jack cheese on top and chipotle BBQ sauce. Now, being way too big for me to actually eat it as a burger; I cut up the patty in pieces, and ate it in smaller bites. I was tasting a slight kick in spice from the chipotle BBQ, good thing the Modelo was helping me out subdue that every bite I took. I managed to finish the meat (literally) of the burger without feeling too full that I can’t enjoy the concert later.
To end, if you’re looking for Mexican while you’re in the Times Square area; then I recommend Sombrero as the spot to hit up. Great spot to go by yourself or with friends after a long and hard day’s work. For myself, I would like to be back to try out their flan and how they do fried ice cream.
As a bonus; if you do wanna get the most bang for your buck; I’ll leave you with the following options below with my links, so that you can earn cash back on what you order while you’re at Sombrero.
Know of any other local shops that you enjoy going to that should be highlighted? Leave a comment and let me know!
And as always,
Remember to always support your local establishments! They are a part of your community!
